Despite having a similar appearance to the 2004 comedy, this new version isn’t nearly that. This is an adaptation of the stage musical Mean Girls, which was itself an adaptation of the original movie, and it was written by Tina Fey, who also wrote the original and appears in it. Reneé Rapp portrays Regina George, the top mean girl, while Angourie Rice plays new girl Cady Heron.

FEBRUARY

Matthew Vaughn is the director.
Starring: Bryan Cranston, Sofia Boutella, Ariana DeBose, John Cena, Sam Rockwell, Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Samuel L. Jackson
Set to open on February 2, 2024
The action comedy Kingsman, directed by Matthew Vaughn, brings the world of cheeky spies back to life. It centers on a novelist (Bryce Dallas Howard), whose spy novel plots uncannily resemble those of an underground crime syndicate, drawing their notice. Sam Rockwell, an undercover agent, must intervene to save her and her cat.

Lisa Frankenstein (2024)

Matthew Vaughn is the director.
starring Carla Gugino, Cole Sprouse, and Kathryn Newton
Set to open on February 9, 2024
The writer of Juno and Jennifer’s Body, Diablo Cody, is also responsible for the script for this ’90s retelling of the beloved Mary Shelley horror tale. Kathryn Newton, who starred in Ant-guy and the Wasp: Quantumania, plays Lisa, a misunderstood adolescent who has a thing for the young Victorian guy buried in the cemetery beyond her family’s house. After that young man is inexplicably revived, the two start a strange romantic relationship.

Bob Marley: One Love (2024)

Reinaldo Marcus Green directed.
James Norton, Tosin Cole, Lashana Lynch, and Kingsley Ben-Adir in the lead roles
Set to open on February 14, 2024.
Kingsley Ben-Adir, who made an appearance in the previous year’s Barbie, One Night in Miami, stars in this biographical picture about the iconic reggae musician. Reinaldo Marcus Green, whose previous historical picture, King Richard, garnered six Oscar nominations and a Best Actor win for Will Smith, is the director. The movie appears to be a rather comprehensive examination of the singer’s life, including both his ascent to stardom and his passing.

Madame Web (2024)

Lead director: S.J. Clarkson
Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Tahar Rahim, Emma Roberts, Mike Epps, Adam Scott, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, and Zosia Mamet are the stars.
Set to open on February 14, 2024.
Even though Peter Parker doesn’t appear in Sony’s “Spider-Man Movie Franchise (Without Spider-Man),” which stars Dakota Johnson as the clairvoyant Spidey side character, Madame Web may be worth watching even if Spider-Man himself doesn’t. Zosia Mamet, Adam Scott, and Sydney Sweeney co-star.

Eminent director: Ethan Coen

Ethan Coen is now following in Joel Coen’s footsteps as a single filmmaker, having already done so with 2019’s Macbeth. In this road comedy, Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan portray two friends whose road trip to Tallahassee is interrupted when they encounter a bunch of bumbling crooks.

Stopmotion (2024)

For those who are lamenting the absence of unique horror movies (which, incidentally, we believe you can locate if you search for them), we present this hidden gem that had its debut at Fantastic Fest the previous year. The film, directed by Robert Morgan (who also co-wrote the book with Robin King), follows a stop-motion animator who, after a neighbor proposes adding a hideous new character, becomes obsessed with her newest project.
